WHAT ARE THESE MATCHING LUMPS UNDER BUSH'S JACKET?

Speculation is running wild that George W. Bush was being fed talking points during the presidential debates, and the White House's explanations for the matching bulges in his jacket are downright laughable.

First they said that photos showing the bulge must have been doctored. When the bulge turned out to be clearly visible on videotape footage from the debates, campaign spokeswoman Nicolle Devenish started singing a different tune:

"There was nothing under his suit jacket. It was most likely a rumpling of that portion of his suit jacket, or a wrinkle in the fabric."

She offered no explanation for why the "rumpling" was exactly the same on two.

If he were wearing a wire during the first debate, why did he blow it so badly? The device may have lost its connection, which would explain why he didn't choke until 10 or 15 minutes into the debate.

With all the technology at his disposal through the Secret Service, wouldn't his handlers have chosen something less conspicuous? That's a good point. But if Bush has nothing to hide, what's with the lame explanations from the campaign?

And how about this: During an answer to a question in first debate, Bush interrupts his response with the words "now let me finish" when neither John Kerry or moderator Jim Leher appears to be attempting to interrupt him, either verbally or through gestures or body language. (In fact, Bush is the one who has been doing all the interrupting during the debates.) You can hear the audio of this slip-up here. So to whom was he talking?

Also, this is not the first time Bush has been caught being prompted by remote radio. In fact, there's a whole site dedicated to this investigation. isbushwired.com lists several occasions on which the president seems to have been fed things to say during press conferences, including audio feed from an event with French President Jacques Chirac during which a frequency error resulted in the person prompting Bush being heard over the airwaves. (The audio of this press conference can be found on the White House website. The 'phantom voice' occurs just after the question, addressed to Chirac, "what role specifically would you like the French to play in Iraq going forward? Merci."

Technical experts interviewed by Salon.com say the bulge is unquestionably a transceiver designed to receive electronic signals and transmit them to a hidden earpiece lodged in Bush's ear canal.
